Sally Wern Comport, is an award-winning illustrator and principal of Art at Large, Inc., which she has owned and operated for almost 20 years. Art at Large, Inc. is a full-service art consulting and production company specializing in custom large-scale creative solutions for interior and exterior spaces and has produced some of the most visually compelling and aesthetically compatible designs for museums and institutions in the region.
Sally works closely with each client to understand their mission and needs and provide a custom solution suitable for their environment in collaboration with our expert partners. Her areas of skill include dimensional exhibition, visual experience design, public art, illustration, and graphic design for print and web use. From research, design, and fabrication, to the final nuts and bolts of the installation, Art at Large is constantly expanding its capabilities with ever-evolving print technologies, imaging software, media materials, and substrates.
Art at Large, Inc. is an MBE/DBE Certified Woman-Owned Small Business. Comport has been recognized for her custom illustration work by the Society of Illustrators with a Gold Medal, and has received honors including the Christopher Award, the 2017 Flora Stieglitz Straus Award, the Americas Award in Children’s Literature, and the Bank Street College Children’s Book of the Year. Sally Wern Comport served on the Board of Directors of Providence Center, a non-profit organization providing care, job placement, and life skills to adults with developmental disabilities, from 2008–2018 as an advocate on behalf of family caregivers, as well as providing volunteer services for brand identity design and application through environmental graphic design across multiple facilities, signage, and transportation vehicles. Comport also served on the Annapolis Arts District Board from 2015–2018, establishing neighborhood placemaking through public art and design consultation, and the Visit Annapolis & Anne Arundel County tourism agency’s Board of Directors, providing consultation as a business owner and liaison to the arts community as an economic driver.
