Chris Calori is a founding partner of New York City based Calori & Vanden-Eynden / Design Consultants, also known as CVEDesign, which merged with Toronto based Entro Communications in 2018. Together with CVE founding partner David Vanden-Eynden, Chris built an internationally recognized, award-wining design firm specializing in the planning and design of signage and wayfinding programs. Chris, together with David, has stepped back from active practice, with the title of Principal Emerita. As a person who lives and breathes design, she continues to give back to the profession by engaging in SEGD activities, speaking, consulting, and writing.
Chris is a Fellow of the SEGD, the professional organization’s highest honor, and has received the SEGD’a Distinguished Member Award. The SEGD has also recognized her as one of the 25 most influential designers in the field of Environmental Graphic Design (EGD). Additionally, she is a former AIGA member and a former Professional Affiliate of the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. She is committed to design education for students, practitioners, client, and the general public. She served on the adjunct faculty at the State University of New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) from 1989 to 1999, reaching the rank of Adjunct Assistant Professor, and taught at FIT again in 2016 and 2017. Additionally, she was an interim Associate Professor and Graduate Teaching Assistant at The Ohio State University. Ohio State’s Department of Industrial, Interior, and Visual Communication Design honored Chris with its first Distinguished Alumni Award in 2008. Ms. Calori has spoken at numerous colleges and universities, and at SEGD and other professional events.
Chris authored the acclaimed book Signage and Wayfinding Design: A Complete Guide to Creating Environmental Graphic Design Systems, published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. in 2007. This seminal book is now in its second edition, published by Wiley in June 2015 and co-authored by David. Her writing has also appeared in numerous other publications. Chris’s work has received awards from the SEGD, AIA, APA, IDSA, AIGA, and the City of New York, and has been featured in national and international books and periodicals. Additionally, she has frequently served as a critic and juror for design programs and competitions.
