Artists, coders, hackers, and technologists are shaping the future of experience design, and at Xlab 2015, the SEGD design + technology event, they’ll show how they’re using platforms like wearables, virtual reality, beacons, and code to tell stories and transform places.
Where do you fit in all of this? Find out at Xlab 2015: Transforming X—November 5-6 in New York!
Xlab is SEGD's digital technology event designed to illuminate the rapidly shifting “x factors" in experience design. Xlab encourages dialogue among designers, planners, business, technology integrators, and users to harness design thinking and technology toward better user experiences.
Xlab 2015 is a two-day event including keynote talks and panel sessions on Thursday, November 5, with the designers, technologists, and thinkers at the cutting edge of experience design. Project tours and Studio visits are scheduled for Friday, November 6.
Thought leadership from experience design powerhouses such as ARGO Design, Intersection (Control Group), Stimulant, Adafruit, Bluecadet, Gensler, Snaps, Sensing Places, and others will share how they’re transforming experiences at the city scale as well as in business, retail, cultural, and public spaces.
“There has never been a more exciting time to transform storytelling and placemaking across all market segments,” says Bryan Meszaros, founder of OpenEye Global and Xlab 2015 Chair. “Platforms are developing at such a rapid pace, and need to be explored as opportunities to advance the way we live, work, and play.”
“It’s always exciting to learn about the latest tools, but the really exciting news is that the possibilities they represent are limitless—and undefined,” Meszaros adds. “It’s up to you and me to figure out how to use them in ways no one else has even thought of yet. That’s what Xlab is for.”
Xlab 2015 will inspire discovery with sessions on how:
> Technology and data are connecting and transforming cities
> Mobile technologies are building brands and creating user-centric experiences at retail
> Design thinking and technology are transforming business
> DIY and hacking cultures are shaping fashion through wearable technology
> Beacons and sensors are creating excitement and inciting interaction in public spaces
> Artificial intelligence will soon make physical interfaces obsolete
Xlab will return to the SVA Theatre in Manhattan on Nov. 5, followed by an evening event hosted by the SEGD New York chapter. Optional project tours and studio visits will be offered the morning of Friday, Nov. 6.
