Vernon Southward designs and develops tools that help bridge the gap between technology and people. He specializes in product planning, project management, and business development.
Currently, he is the CEO-owner of Easel.ly, makers of an infographic maker tool, and provider of custom infographics services for brands of all shapes and sizes.
Since 2015, Vernon is Easelly's big picture guy. At Easelly, he makes sure that all business functions align — from product development (planning, customer research, scheduling) to customer support.
Through Easelly, he has worked with reputable brands and organizations such as the U.S. Department of Health, Whole Foods Market, and the University of Southern California.
Vernon started his career at Microsoft as a tools developer in 2002. Four years later, he moved to Microsoft's headquarters and worked on business intelligence and automation tools.
In 2009, he became one of Microsoft's program managers. He worked with Microsoft's research groups to develop NLP (Natural Language Processing) technologies. During this period, he led a group in making Microsoft Office more context-aware. These technologies include Named Entity Extraction, Key Phrase, Event, Address, and People Identification. All these technologies became the foundation for Microsoft's Cortana Assistant and Microsoft Exchange Intelligent Services.
Vernon has a B.S. in Information Management Systems from the Trinity College Dublin. He also formerly owns Clientsfromhell.net.
