William Bardel

Designer and Author

William Bardel is the principal of Luminant Design, an information design firm that makes data, ideas and places easier to access and understand. With an eye for clarity, He has designed sign programs for buildings, cities, airports and other transit systems, along with maps, infographics, dynamic information displays, and statistical data visualizations.

William Bardel is co-author of the book "Drawing Ideas: A hand-drawn approach for better design" (Watson-Guptill 2013) and author of the widely-used illustrated guide "Signage and the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design". His writing on visual cognition is a chapter in the book "Mind Hacks", by the O'Reilly Press (2004). His infographic and diagram work is featured in "Best Informational Diagrams II" and "Informational Diagram Collection" by PIE Books in Japan (2004, 2009).

William Bardel holds a degree in English from Kenyon College and a Masters of Design from Carnegie Mellon University.
