INFOTOGO addresses Toronto's need for a self-financing tourist and resident wayfinding information system that can be deployed city wide, with custom district mapping.
The form of this street furniture element breaks away from the traditional city information pillar by lifting the body of the structure off the ground from a cantilevered pole. This innovative approach is further emphasized by implementing a three-sided display system, two convex faces, and one concave face to welcome and invite the user.
Environmental graphic designers worked closely with Harvard University to develop a wayfinding program for a new four-level underground parking garage intended for weekday staff parking and evening/weekend event parking.
The key to the program was to first direct visitors to the Tranportation and Visitor Center, centrally located on the Newport Waterfront. This facility has a large parking garage and serves as the transportation hub for buses and shuttles serving all parts of the city. The goal was to get visitors to parking areas as quicky and expeditiously as possible, get them out of their cars and encourage them to experience Newport at its best: on foot.
The Museum of Arts and Design in New York collects and presents contemporary and historic innovations in craft, art, and design. The museum opened its new home at Two Columbus Circle in September 2008. As part of the museum's relocation, MAD commissioned Pentagram to create static and dynamic interior and exterior signage and wayfinding as well as a suite of interactive interpretive media for the galleries.
The primary task of the Brooklyn Bridge Pedestrian Improvement project was to create a welcoming transition from the bridge’s pedestrian walkway to the surrounding Brooklyn neighborhoods and to encourage visitors to explore its shops, restaurants, and cultural institutions. The solution needed to be eye-catching, vandal resistant, and low maintenance. It also had to be respectful and minimally invasive to the historical landmark bridge.
Built in 1971, the Sciences Library at Brown University is the kind of building you see at a lot of colleges: big, bold, and modern, but not warm or comfortable—and not well loved by many people on campus. In 2006, Brown decided to convert the first three levels of the building into the Susan P. and Richard A. Friedman Study Center. Open 24 hours a day, the center offers a variety of spaces where students can work, gather, and collaborate.
The inner city suburb of Fortitude Valley in Brisbane, Australia, had for many years been the home of venues that nurtured such musical talent as the Saints, the Go Betweens, Powderfinger, Savage Garden, Keith Urban, and the Bee Gees. Now internationally known for its live music and nightclubs, the area's creative arts community and Chinatown precinct have drawn youth and lifestyle fashion retailers, commercial tenants, and significant residential development back to “the Valley.”
Wayfinding solutions for people with low vision have yet to take full advantage of emerging technologies. David Sweeney, a research associate at London’s Royal College of Art, investigated tools that could improve wayfinding experiences for visually impaired users and provide them with the luxury of choice and exploration while navigating. But while Sweeney’s research focused on the visually impaired, it also has implications for helping all users navigate public spaces and manage complex information about the built environment.

The rehabilitation of Chapultepec Park in Mexico City included a new signage system to guide and inform the 15 million annual visitors to the park, one of the oldest and largest in Latin America. Design proposals were subject to the approval of forest management, private investors, project managers, users, and the government.

And with more than 12 miles of streets and roadways—and approximately 43,000 parking spaces in dozens of parking garages and surface lots—it presents some significant wayfinding challenges.
