Carlo Giannasca is a multi-award winning graphic and environmental designer who today is a partner at globally recognized Frost*collective where he is Head of Urbanite, one of Australia’s foremost authorities on brand in the built environment.

During his career spanning 30 years he has fostered highly respected creative partnerships with architects, interior-designers, builders and developers to deliver major branding, strategic signage and wayfinding schemes for the public and private sectors.

The Pavilion provides voluntary lifesavers with facilities to operate from, as well as a public amenity block of toilets, showers and change rooms. The clients wanted to engage with a design team who could build upon the unique and playful character of Coogee, while still meeting the strict requirements for signage and wayfinding within a public amenity facility. The functional aim was to assist with the public’s use of the space as well as soften the contemporary architecture.

Working in collaboration with Joey Ho and Patrick Leung of PalDesign Architects, Urbanite was commissioned to work on a new concept in children’s play spaces that is understood to be the first of its kind in Australia. Built around best practices for early childhood education through a lens of play, Nubo supports education and growth through exploration and connection for children up to ten years of age.

“Off Grid 18,”the second-annual international experiential graphic design event created by the Wellington Chapter of SEGD, transpired over four days and four cities in late February. The theme was “Experiential City,” which posed the question, “What is the ‘experiential city’ and where does design fit in?”
