Who, Like Me, Is Threatened?

In 2014, the Center for Civil and Human Rights opened in Atlanta as a place for education, connection, collaboration and action. By challenging visitors to understand their role in helping others and empowering them to “take the protection of every human’s rights personally,” the museum sheds much-needed light on a variety of global issues and, most importantly, the people experiencing them.

Free Zone

The design brief asked the Second Story team to explore the theme of “time” by imagining a future world based on “plausible present technologies, ideas or milieus.” The temporary installation would live in public spaces along a downtown Atlanta block during “Creative Loafing’s Best of Atlanta” annual party.

Photography Interpretive Gallery

“Photography is one of the foundations on which this house is built. We want to set it up as the equal of painting here,” said SFMOMA Director Neal Benezra. SFMOMA has been photography’s longtime champion, and with the addition of its massive Pritzker Center, it is now home to the largest space permanently dedicated to photography in any art museum in the United States.

Learning to See at Denver Botanic Garden
Denver Learns to See Nature with Digital and Interactive Experiences

If you live in Denver, it’s hard not to feel inspired by the dramatic natural backdrop (Rocky Mountain High, anyone?). But the Denver Botanic Gardens, which opened its new Science Pyramid last fall, wants to make sure visitors not only appreciate the wonders of nature around them, but understand they are an important part of it, interconnected and invested.

#Trashtag

For Elevate 2014, an annual pop-up festival sponsored by the city of Atlanta, the Goat Farm Arts Center, a “creative industrial complex” that produces vanguard arts programming, conceived the D_MPSTERS program. They acquired 10 large roll-a-way trash containers, parked them on underused downtown streets, and curated a weeklong exhibition within them. Second Story, part of SapientNitro, was responsible for activating one of the dumpsters based on Elevate’s central theme: Social City.

Learning to See

Learning to See, the permanent exhibit in the new Science Pyramid space at the Denver Botanic Gardens, brings to life the stories hidden within Colorado's landscape. By helping visitors of all ages and backgrounds to recognize the complexity of the scenes that surround them and understand their interconnectedness with the environment, the exhibit provokes exploration and inspires wonder. It also highlights, for the first time, the important research work conducted at the Gardens and the ways in which citizens can become involved in plant conservation research themselves.
