Throughout August 2020, SEGD members participated in the organization’s annual Exhibition + Experience event. Titled “How Soon Is Now? Designing Change,” the symposium responded to the tumultuous events of that year. The event’s co-chair, Joel Krieger (Senior Director of Design, Magic Leap, previously of Second Story), helped to curate a roster of speakers and stories for how design can be used as a tool for positive change.

How Soon is Now? Designing Change

The Society for Experiential Graphic Design (SEGD) brought together multidisciplinary designers from around the world for the first comprehensive and virtual multi-day event dedicated to exhibition and experience design. This series, entitled How Soon Is Now? Designing Change, focused on the current state of museum design processes and practices, and will examine how designers, storytellers and artists create experiences in the physical and virtual realms for audiences of varied backgrounds, ethnicities, abilities, and ages.

The design brief asked the Second Story team to explore the theme of “time” by imagining a future world based on “plausible present technologies, ideas or milieus.” The temporary installation would live in public spaces along a downtown Atlanta block during “Creative Loafing’s Best of Atlanta” annual party.
