Sasan Moradian

Sasan Moradian is a designer who appreciates multi-disciplinary design approaches and the process of creative solutions. He has built up solid experience through hard work and a passion for learning. In 2007 Sasan was accepted for the Visual Communication program at the University of Applied Science and Technology in Tehran. In 2018 he graduated from NSCAD University with a major in Interdisciplinary Design. Sasan worked as a full-time graphic designer in design agencies and continues to work as a freelance designer.

This project started with the notion of the Delmore “Buddy” Daye Learning Institute as the collectors and distributors of knowledge related to African ancestry in Nova Scotia. Ghanaian Adinkra symbols are essential in that culture to express ideas. From architecture to signage, from material to finish, the Adinkra woodcuts—used to print on storytelling cloth—informed the architectural and placemaking work.

Interested in additional perspectives on graphic design, the editor at Applied Arts Magazine approached John deWolf of Form:Media to be a regular contributor to their quarterly publication. In particular, the editorial team was interested in benefiting from deWolf’s experience in the field of experiential graphic design.

At 9:04 am, on December 6, 1917, Halifax weathered a devastating explosion. A wartime city (equilibrium) endured a devastating explosion (disruption), is rescued and re-imagined (resolution) and rose anew (new equilibrium). From an experiential graphic design perspective, this project presented an opportunity to explore notions of the narrative.
