The Contemporary Craft Center is a place to both see and make art. The center emphasizes a hands-on approach to learning and creating—the same approach Art Center College of Design student Britteny Teng took when creating a visual language for her micro-exhibition.

The assignment was to create an interactive installation to complement the exhibition of an artist’s work and distill the concept that the artist is trying to convey and reimagine it for others to not only enjoy the experience but to understand the process behind the artist’s vision.

When Tacoma Art Museum nearly doubled their exhibition space with an expansive new wing of Western Art, they commissioned Studio Matthews to create new signage and wayfinding inside and out.

This interactive light installation located at the heart of the University of British Columbia, provides a colorful expression of thanks to the over 4,000 donors to the University's "start an evolution" fundraising campaign, which raised an unprecedented two billion dollars.

The University asked PUBLIC: Architecture + Communication to design an engaging, permanent and timeless outdoor feature that would give thanks to the donors to their recent "start an evolution" fundraising campaign. The brief was to create anything but a typical donor wall.

For over 100 years, Planned Parenthood has fought for reproductive health and rights, championing the idea that women should have the information and care they need to live strong, healthy lives and to manage their own fertility. Currently, the organization is powered by nine and a half million activists, supporters, and donors nationwide.

La Cité du Vin, which opened in June 2016, is the world’s largest visitor center dedicated to the story of wine. The permanent exhibition designed by Casson Mann, is a spectacular, innovative and playful series of displays that form a rich and entertaining visitor experience. Welcomed by wine experts, appreciated by critics and thoroughly enjoyed by families, the new exhibition has transformed people’s expectations of a wine museum.

International property consultancy Knight Frank recently moved into a newly designed Australian head office in the heart of Sydney’s central business district. The interior—completed by Geyer Sydney— was designed to provide a contemporary agile working space that embodied “the underlying sophistication of a well-established, professional company whilst exuding a dynamic energy, generated from their entrepreneurial and innovative spirit.”

This first-ever visitor center for the globally-recognized Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center was carved out of a defunct, 550-square-foot credit union space on the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center campus.

The challenge was to take a small budget and a tiny space and establish a brand new visitor center to tell the inspiring Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center story. The intent was to create a welcoming, informative and inspiring space for a diverse audience of benefactors, patients, researchers, employees, and visitors to the Seattle campus.

In 2014, the Center for Civil and Human Rights opened in Atlanta as a place for education, connection, collaboration and action. By challenging visitors to understand their role in helping others and empowering them to “take the protection of every human’s rights personally,” the museum sheds much-needed light on a variety of global issues and, most importantly, the people experiencing them.

Written Wor(l)ds was part of Creative Mapping, a special topics course that brought together University of Houston MFA/BFA Graphic Design, School of Art and MFA/PhD Creative Writing, Department of English. The Written Wor(l)ds exhibition set out to represent both the words and the worlds of selected literary texts.

Located in rejuvenated King’s Cross London, The Plimsoll Building, designed by David Morley Architects, references the Victorian industrial heritage of the area and it is named in honor of Samuel Plimsoll, one of Victorian Britain’s most important historical figures and one with links to the history of King’s Cross.

The design brief asked the Second Story team to explore the theme of “time” by imagining a future world based on “plausible present technologies, ideas or milieus.” The temporary installation would live in public spaces along a downtown Atlanta block during “Creative Loafing’s Best of Atlanta” annual party.

The Festival of Transitional Architecture (FESTA) in Christchurch was initiated in 2012 as a way to reimagine a city in flux, finding its feet after its devastating earthquake. FESTA is curated by Te Pūtahi, a non-profit focused on the current rebuild and ongoing renewal of Christchurch. In 2016, FESTA’s headline event was “Lean Means”—a night of installation and celebration framed around exploring sustainability through the reuse of waste materials for creative urban regeneration.

“Photography is one of the foundations on which this house is built. We want to set it up as the equal of painting here,” said SFMOMA Director Neal Benezra. SFMOMA has been photography’s longtime champion, and with the addition of its massive Pritzker Center, it is now home to the largest space permanently dedicated to photography in any art museum in the United States.

Script-writing is usually the first step of film production. The One Plus Partnership Limited design team thus incorporated this element into the design of this cinema project. Breaking down scripts into smaller elements, Chinese characters are used as a representation of script-writing.

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) is San Francisco’s preeminent theater company. The 50-year-old arts nonprofit recently commissioned the design and renovation of a derelict cinema on San Francisco’s Market Street. Care was taken to sensitively retrofit the shell of the former 725-seat cinema: the façade was restored and essential modern theater elements were layered over the raw backdrop of the original building.

The company is evolving, using new forms of media to expand its tireless mission in both delivery and dialogue.

As the largest industrial property group listed on the ASX with 188 properties nationally and operations in 33 cities stretching across 16 countries, Goodman turned to Urbanite, a division of Frost*collective to design an environmental communication solution to build awareness of its thirteen-billion-AUS-dollar business.

In December 2014, following a three-year renovation that has restored the historic Andrew Carnegie Mansion and increased the museum’s exhibition space by 60 percent, the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum reopened to the public. Pentagram’s Michael Gericke and Eddie Opara have collaborated on the graphics for the revitalized institution, including a bold new graphic identity, website, signage, wayfinding, and exhibition graphics.

MahaNahkon is a new 77-story high-rise mixed-use complex located on a 3.6-acre site in the heart of Bangkok’s Central Business District. The building is designed by Ole Scheeren of Büro Ole Scheeren and developed by Pace Development. Pentagram has designed a program of environmental graphics for MahaNahkon, including dynamic digital installations for CUBE, the building’s retail component.

What do outer space capsules, submarines, and office buildings have in common? Each was conceived as a closed system, a self-sustaining physical environment that is set apart from its surroundings and uses its own matter and energy to function. “Closed Worlds” was an exhibition at the Storefront for Art and Architecture in New York that presents 41 living prototypes for these ecologically regenerative systems.

When a client’s design ethos in the workplace is about openness and connecting people, it’s an excellent start and one that this financial client was keen to replicate across its three Sydney sites. The Urbanite team’s strategic thinking directly supported these values and drove the wayfinding and placemaking outcome across this building’s seven floors.

This financial brand is held up in the industry as a forward-thinking organization actively prioritizing workplace design. Of their three major workspaces in Sydney’s CBD, two are award-winning architectural triumphs.

The Seoul National University Arts Research Center is a shared-use facility for undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Fine Arts and the College of Music. The building is constructed in a modern style as an L-shaped steel frame with a glass atrium at the center that serves as the core of the structure and passageway to access the various parts of the facility.

“Mac Conner—A New York Life” was shown in one of the first floor galleries at the Museum of the City of New York. This was the first exhibition of Mac Conner’s work and paid homage to one of the industry’s greats. It was part of a series of temporary exhibitions to educate the public on the past and future of New York City.
