SushiSamba Rio's new exterior creates a relief from the existing brick facades of River North with undulating forms and vibrant canopies that recall the pageantry of Rio. Guests arrive through a Mondrian-inspired storefront of clear and colored glass marked by sculpted handles that pay homage to the sensuous forms of jellyfish from South Africa.
Finding a way to display 113 discrete pieces while maintaining clarity and avoiding the cacophony of a cluttered space is difficult enough. But because the AIGA's annual design competition covers a range of design disciplines, it was also crucial to respect how each piece was meant to be experienced.
The Farmer's Daughter Hotel is located in Los Angeles across the street from the CBS Studios and The Grove Shopping Center. The hotel was in desperate need of renovation both graphic and architectural. However, the budget was extremely limited.
Through the creation of a strong image/logo and the use of low-tech materials like corten steel, recycled barn wood, and paint, the hotel transforms into a bold expressive canvas that commands attention from its urban counterparts.
Eighty-one colored lights cover a distance of over 180 meters, visible both inside and outside the building. Visitors instantly manipulate lighting patterns through touching single digit keys on their mobile phone.
Nano Jon is the arcade that gamers have always wished for, where the line between the real world and the virtual one is blurred. It is a place where – no matter what your age – you can experience the full spectrum of electronic media from the days of old to today.
