Kim Baer, principal of Los Angeles-based design studio KBDA, is a strong believer in the power of design as a strategic tool. Her firm has created research-driven work for clients as diverse as the Getty, Amgen, Hyatt, Nike, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, Inner-City Arts, the Skirball Cultural Center, and the LA Philharmonic.
KBDA specializes in helping organizations hone their positioning and messaging. Once that messaging has been crafted, KBDA is well known for its focus on audience experience, whether that is expressed online, in print, or in a 3D environment.
Nature Lab, a new exhibit at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, uses media and lively graphics to invite visitors to “put their nature eyes on.” Gallagher & Associates and KBDA collaborated on the project, which was a 2014 SEGD Global Design Awards winner. Do what comes naturally—allow your work to shine by entering the 2015 SEGD Global Design Awards. The deadline has been extended to Feb. 28!
The Nature Lab is a 6,500-square-foot, hands-on gallery showcasing live animals, media interactives, scientist demonstrations, and more than 200 specimens for visitors to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Los Angeles is located inside a biodiversity hotspot, and the evidence is everywhere—if we know how to look. The Nature Lab is the place where visitors can “put on their nature eyes” and learn to see what they’ve never seen before about wildlife in Los Angeles.
Dinosaurs are one of the core offerings at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles, with many one-of-a-kind and scientifically significant specimens. In July 2011, the museum opened the new, 14,000-square-foot Dinosaur Hall to highlight the latest dinosaur discoveries and bring the process of scientific investigation to life.
