As the local journalism crisis deepens, with thousands of local news outlets shuttering across the country, The New York Times has renewed its focus on covering their own home base. The Times has a rich tradition of reporting in New York, but because of the publication’s political and international coverage, many New Yorkers don’t think of it as a local news source.

The National Memorial for Peace and Justice

The environmental graphic design of The National Memorial for Peace and Justice (National Lynching Memorial) in Montgomery, Alabama was a collaboration between the Equal Justice Initiative, MASS Design Group (architects) and Small Stuff with collaborator afreeman (environmental graphic design).

With an annual passenger load of over 24 million passengers annually, servicing over 60 international destinations and all domestic flights, Gimpo International Airport is an extremely active and bustling airport for its size. Seoul-based design firm Yieum Partners’ primary role on the Gimpo remodel project was to create a new total wayfinding solution from points of entry all the way to the final departure gates.

One Melbourne Quarter, located in the heart of Melbourne’s Southern Cross Precinct, is a new center for business, and home to a new workplace HQ spanning five levels that occupy over 9,500sqm.  As part of the overall office design, the design team’s scope was to provide signage, wayfinding and environmental graphics for the new space.

Louisiana Children's Museum

The beloved Louisiana Children’s Museum was housed for 30 years in the Warehouse District of New Orleans before expanding to a stunning new 8.5-acre site in City Park. Studio Matthews’ part of the project encompassed the design of a new brand as well as signage, interpretation, environmental graphics, and donor recognition throughout the new indoor/outdoor site.

Make Some Room – Unconscious Bias Workshop

Despite a growing movement for corporate diversity and bias trainings, many employees still experience the dehumanizing and daily impacts of bias and discrimination. We’ve become more informed, but not necessarily transformed.

As experience designers, the team believed that addressing bias in our own workplaces and culture required a new approach—to shift these trainings from intellectual understanding to emotional awakening. Make Some Room is an immersive workshop that marries storytelling and space to change hearts, not just minds.

International Airport "Gagarin" Art Exposition

Gagarin International Airport in Saratov, Russia was built from scratch in an open field and put into operation in September 2019 featuring а permanent interactive exhibition.The client initiated the project to provide a superb passenger experience: amusing, educating and entertaining passengers while they’re waiting for flights. Seven installations trigger all senses and create truly immersive experience—any visitor becomes an explorer prepared to take a flight just like Gagarin did.
