Merit Award
Manchester Civil Justice Centre Signage, Emerystudio

The Manchester Civil Justice Centre is the largest civil court built in England in the last 100 years. The landmark 14-story building, part of a large city-center redevelopment project, was designed by Australian architects Denton Corker Marshall following an international design competition. It opened in October 2007 and achieved an “excellent” rating from the Building Research Establishment Assessment Method (BREEAM) system, similar to LEED.

Rallye BMW Facade

Merit Award
Rallye BMW Facade, HLW International LLP

Rallye BMW had outgrown its existing cramped, outdated space and was in jeopardy of losing its BMW franchise. In addition to needing a larger and newer facility, Rallye wanted to create a destination for new and existing clients, as well as a place where staff would be proud to work. The result is a 92,000-sq.-ft. state-of-the-art facility worthy of its clients, its employees, and the BMW brand.

San-Ai Clinic is a rehabiliation facility that recently undertook a renovation and expansion, almost doubling its usable space for rehabilitation activities.

Purposely designed free of elaborate appointments, the space features open spaces, high ceilings, and no partitions—creating a modern, friendly environment. The space is divided into 12 functional areas and patient therapy is not limited to any one space; patients can move from area to area in circuit-training fashion.

Universal Studios AMC Cinema Graphics

Merit Award
Universal Studios AMC Cinema Graphics, Universal Studios Hollywood, Sussman/Prejza & Company

The renovation of the AMC Cinema at Universal City Walk has raised the bar for movie-going experiences in Los Angeles. After large architectural gestures proved to be unfeasible, the design team was brought on to make a bold graphic statement within the confines of the existing structure and a limited budget. The first task was to create the “big idea” that the targeted demographic would respond to. Since the majority of City Walk movie-goers are 18 to 25 years old, the design team created a visual statement that would appeal to this age group.
