Tara Bengston is a graphic designer working in the Glastonbury, CT office of The S/L/A/M Collaborative – a national multi-disciplinary firm offering architecture, planning, interior design, landscape architecture, structural engineering and construction services. Currently the only graphic designer working for the large firm, she has her hands on a variety of marketing and billable projects. She has a passion for all forms of design, but finds special pleasure in designing large interior graphics to meld into the work of her fellow coworker interior designers and architects.

Steve Haas is the President and Principal Consultant of SH Acoustics, an internationally recognized and award-winning consulting firm specializing in the acoustic and audio design of luxury homes, museums, performance spaces and recording environments. 

With a great-grandfather who was a mason that worked on some of Europe’s finest concert halls and a grandfather who was a concert pianist and violinist that played with numerous orchestras, including the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra, Steve Haas was destined to make his mark in the field of music and acoustics.

Grace Farms Signage and Wayfinding

Located on 80 open acres of lush, rolling meadows, woods, and wetlands in New Canaan, Connecticut, Grace Farms provides a place for people to experience nature, foster community, pursue social justice and explore the connections between art and faith, all while immersed in a beautiful landscape. A complex system of signage and environmental graphics for the Grace Farms building and grounds has been developed by Pentagram, expanding on the design of the institution’s identity and website.

Despite the moniker, Grace Farms is not an agricultural enterprise. The unique 80-acre campus in New Canaan, Conn., boasts a multiple award-winning and winding 83,000-square-foot building, while exemplary wayfinding by Pentagram (New York) helps guide all visitors in their exploration of nature, community and faith.

Opened in January 2014, the 242,000-square-foot, Norman Foster + Partners-designed, Edward P. Evans Hall is the new home of the Yale School of Management. To create a lasting impression of the Yale School of Management's presence and brand, and to easily communicate timely information, Unified Field created three floors of interactive media and digital signage for the students, faculty, and visitors.

Alexander Isley

Alexander Isley is Creative Director of Alexander Isley (West Redding, Conn.), where he leads the team of designers, writers, and planners, establishing the strategic and creative vision in
all their work. 

Alex first gained recognition in the early 1980s as the senior designer at Tibor Kalman’s influential M&Co. He went on to serve as the first full-time art director of the funny and fearless Spy magazine. In 1988 Alex founded Alexander Isley Inc. in New York City. In 1995 he relocated the firm to Connecticut in order to be closer to trees.

Cascading Columns

In 1903, the Williamsburg Bridge opened as the largest suspension bridge spanning New York's East River. Never considered aesthetically beautiful, the bridge falls short in comparison with the acclaimed Brooklyn Bridge.

NeXtwork Convention

The communication goal for this internal brand gathering was to engage and encourage managers and owners to think differently about their roles within the company as it moves away from a focus on real estate to a vision of the collection of Starwood lifestyle brands. The role of the environmental graphic designers was to immerse them in the brand-centric vision, excite, and surprise them with multi-sensory experiences as they mingled in a large lobby space.

Yale University Art Gallery Signage

Louis Kahn’s 1953 Yale University Art Gallery building is one of the first examples of Kahn’s distinctive style. Located across the street from the British Art Center, one of Kahn’s last buildings, the Gallery (known as the Kahn building) is an architectural landmark in the city of New Haven. As part of a decade-long restoration by Polshek Partnership Architects, Open developed a comprehensive signage system guided by two basic principles. First, all of the signage needed to be reversible so that the original condition of the building could be restored.

Chapel of the Holy Spirit

The new chapel at Sacred Heart University serves as a beacon for spiritual life on the campus in Fairfield, Conn. It has a striking presence on the university’s new main quadrangle, complementing the new library and Humanities Center.
