Peter Hecht, PhD, an environmental psychologist, has over four decades of experience in wayfinding systems and behavior in urban public settings. His work covers evidence based design for visitor needs, way-finding, information architecture and organization. This involves system development for users, including special needs groups such as the elderly, those with physical limitations and with limited English proficiency.

Joe Thoma

Joe Thoma is a versatile graphic designer with Cloud Gehshan Associates; a critical thinker / problem solver / creative, with a design education that has equipped him with many related talents including illustration, photography and interaction design.

Joe Thoma was first introduced to environmental graphic design when he participated in an SEGD Summer Workshop. During the workshop, he analyzed an existing signage system and incorporated user-based research into an effective and user-friendly wayfinding system.

This past October, one week before the 2021 SEGD Conference Experience opened in Philadelphia, SEGD member firm Cloud Gehshan (Philadelphia) celebrated the culmination of a six-year-long project to design the wayfinding system for the new Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Pavilion. The project represents a highly collaborative approach between designers, architects and clinicians resulting in a well-integrated and seamless design solution to a complex set of challenges.

Jess looks for the intersection of people, cultural, and business objectives to tell compelling visual stories. She is passionate about equipping clients with the tools needed to authentically bring their brands to life.

Next up is Virginia Gehshan, a 2010 Fellow, former President of SEGD (1992–1993) and Principal of Cloud Gehshan Design in Philadelphia. In her interview with Cybelle Jones (CEO of SEGD), Virginia speaks about how she landed in her career in EGD, forming her partnership with Gerome Cloud, her friendships built at SEGD and where she sees herself in 5 years from now.
