AFROPUNK Festival

AFROPUNK Festival

AFROPUNK Festival is a music festival/human rights movement, described by the New York Times as “the most multicultural festival in the US.”

The word AFROPUNK has become synonymous with an open-minded, non-conforming and unconventional community, placing the institution at the epicenter of urban culture inspired by alternative music.

My challenge was to find a way to introduce their voice as a music festival and human rights movement at the same time. And create an identity system that is very unique and has social impact.

OFFF Festival

OFFF (Open Flash Film Festival) is a rebrand of an existing film festival in Barcelona. The logo captures the essence of a stage, with the flexibility to expand as a graphic behavior based on different environments and media. This year’s festival theme is inspired by the Suprematism movement. It mimics the geometric aesthetics that originated from paintings created by Kazimir Malevich in the twenties.

BRUTAL: Views from Brazil's Concrete Utopia

Graphic design student Tais Ghelli aimed to explore the boundaries of transmedia design with an exhibition on Brazilian Brutalist Architecture. Using the Cannibalist Manifesto—which guided much of the Brazilian modernist movement—as a starting point, Ghelli sought to create a language (and ultimately a space) that translated the tensions, vitality and boldness of the works produced during this period.

The Contemporary Craft Center Featuring Tara Donovan

The Contemporary Craft Center is a place to both see and make art. The center emphasizes a hands-on approach to learning and creating—the same approach Art Center College of Design student Britteny Teng took when creating a visual language for her micro-exhibition.

The assignment was to create an interactive installation to complement the exhibition of an artist’s work and distill the concept that the artist is trying to convey and reimagine it for others to not only enjoy the experience but to understand the process behind the artist’s vision.
