Massachusetts General Hospital

Honor Award
Massachusetts General Hospital

The new wayfinding system for the complex of 18 public hospital buildings takes advantage of its recent redesign, which created a unified network of ground-floor corridors and lobbies. Instead of using building names, the new system is based on "routes" and "stops," like a subway system. People use ground-floor color-coded "routes" to find their "stop" — usually an elevator that takes them to their final destination. From there, building graphics guide users to departments and offices.

Levi's Original Spin Store Design

Merit Award
Levi's Original Spin Store Design, Levi Strauss & Co., Morla Design

Morla Design created the total brand identity for Levi's Original Spin including logo development, store design, consumer brochures and all point-of-purchase collateral. Designed to appeal to a 15-24 year old audience, Levi's Original Spin is based on the consumer as the creator of their own jeans. Store design and brochure layouts enhance the spirit of individuality with black and white photographs of "personalities" that illustrate the various style options.

United Airlines Hangar Mural

Honor Award
United Airlines Hangar Mural, Pentagram

As part of the expansion of Logan International Airport in Boston, an entire section of new aircraft hangars, known as Hangar Row, is being configured. Pentagram was asked by its long-time client, United Airlines, to develop a graphic façade for its new hangar, the first to appear on Hangar Row. The criteria for the design were that it needed to feel distinctly United and that it should be a visual event with the potential to become an airport landmark for those flying into and out of Boston.

AMTRAK's Acela

Merit Award
AMTRAK's Acela, AMTRAK/National Railroad Passenger Corporation, Calori & Vanden-Eynden

AMTRAK's Acela Specialty Station Signage Program. The Acela signage breaks new ground in the branding arena. Rather than being logotype-driven, the program derives its branding strength from its sculptural forms.
