I’m looking forward to continuing with the vision and initiatives that were put in place by Jill Ayers, our incredibly talented past president, including growing our organization to an all-time high of 1,795 members in 2015 and growing our student membership by 22%!
I can’t believe two years have flown by. I write this note as I exit my presidency and welcome in 2016. I am incredibly grateful for this experience and for all of the amazing people I was able to meet and collaborate with. Through the generous support of our sponsors, partners and members, SEGD continues to be the authority for the world of Experiential Graphic Design.
We recently discovered a treasure in the SEGD Archives: a recording of a 2004 SEGD teleconference presentation by Massimo Vignelli, FSEGD (1931-2014), on the design of his controversial New York subway map.
Not only is hearing Massimo's voice a treat, but he shares the basic concept of his New York Subway map design, its evolution and why he insisted on abstraction in spite of criticism. In the face of incredible complexity, he says, "We sifted out all the information which was not necessary."
Stephen Minning, founder and managing director of one of Australia’s leading design and brand studios, will serve as Chair of the 2016 SEGD Global Design Awards jury.

SEGD’s San Francisco chapter hosted 27 students from the Department of Design at the University of California, Davis, for a full day of studio tours October 23. The goal was to give students the opportunity to experience the diversity of careers in environmental graphic design.
SEGD's student group has more than doubled this year. Thank you and welcome to all our new student members!
The Experiential Graphic Design profession is having a very busy year and growing strongly. This is good news for the jobs market. SEGD offers many ways for you to link to the profession and the profession to link to you, but a recent exchange with a student looking for a job suggested to us that many students aren't taking advantage of these connections. We can help with that! Read more...
