To encourage faculty and students to continue moving the sciences into the future, Poulin + Morris was asked to create a series of exhibitions that honor the past and the present by showcasing the ground-breaking research and renowned education conducted at Vassar.

The project comprises more than 30 LED installations in 21 different formats and nearly 30 high-res projectors totaling over 80,000,000 pixels. The project represents a major challenge for content production, made even more difficult by the fact that the majority of installations are located outside.

An ambitious, comprehensive plan to reimagine New York City-area public transit stands out with a simple, strong, and easily identifiable wordmark used in combination with the studio’s persuasive informational presentations, which are well considered, compelling and quite beautiful in their own right.

“We’ve simply embraced it for its quirkiness,” says William Fowler, a distinguished professor of history at Northeastern University. “Can you imagine today someone in Boston wanting to put up a monument to an oil company?”

The team created an installation made of three structures, each constructed of glazed bricks salvaged from the original YMCA. The front of each of the three segments references the original building’s façade, while the back of each segment features a mosaic of the different colored bricks, symbolizing the YMCA’s role in bringing “two worlds” together—a grounding concept behind the architecture of the original building.
