Merit Award 2018
Flight Gallery, Discovery Centre

Designed by AldrichPears Associates, this flight-themed science gallery is a permanent exhibit at the new waterfront home of Discovery Centre, Nova Scotia’s hands-on science center.

The Flight Gallery explores invention and innovation through the lens of flight and aircraft maintenance, and features open-ended exhibits that encourage visitors to experiment, test and re-try to learn more about how the world works through a science-STEM lens.

Vancouver Community Library

Merit Award 2014
Vancouver Community Library

A “drawer full of knowledge” metaphorically describes the building design and wayfinding concept for the new Vancouver Community Library. A 200-foot long, four-story atrium is the open drawer, exposing the library’s contents and encouraging exploration.

Vancouver International Airport Exhibitions and Environmental Graphics

In Transition

Breaking out of their role as generic waystations, airports are creating compelling experiences with public art, interpretive storytelling, and environmental graphics.

Many of us are filled with dread at the thought of having to spend an inordinate amount of time at an airport. We try to plan our arrival just right, negotiating road conditions, check-in lines, security procedures, restroom stops, and quick caffeine fixes. If we cruise up to the gate just as we hear our boarding call announced over the loudspeakers, we’ve won a major victory.
