SEGD Well: Supporting the Healing Mission

How can design, and specifically EGD, support and enhance the healing mission in today’s complex healthcare environments?

SEGD Well: Healthcare Innovations Workshop, held last week in Cincinnati, set out to find the answers to that question.

So what are the answers? Well, you kind of had to be there. But we’re willing to share a peek at what you missed.

Clue: It’s much bigger than wayfinding or mobile apps.

Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children

Honor Award
Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, HKS

Inspired by the hospital's new logo, but not wanting to simply reproduce it, the designers came up with a coloring book theme. It was designed to appeal to children and to reassure them that the hospital is a good place. Giant crayons — some of them supports for the signs — decorate the signs, which depict brightly colored stick-figure children. Several signs include fiberoptic lighting, which illuminate the signs at night.

Pacific Bell Park

Jury Award
Pacific Bell Park, Debra Nichols Design

The scope of this project encompassed the complete graphic design and signage for a new downtown baseball stadium and included logo design, graphic imagery, and all directional, informational, code, identification, and concession signage. A grille motif complements the architecture by expanding on themes of natural light and exposed structure. The logo celebrates the unique San Francisco experience of a waterfront ballpark where a home run to right field just might land in the bay.
