NUBO is a multi-award-winning example of a successful children’s play space; its “pure play” concept is illustrated through every touchpoint of the design. Collaborating again with PAL Design Architects, Urbanite designed games, activities and rooms for imaginative productions, pure play, curious exploration and other physical activity.

Design Within Reach

This practicum project borrows from the narrative qualities of a typical exhibition as a means to guide the design of both public spaces and exhibition halls. Through the examination of the cultural context of the museum’s theme and location, design guidelines and the pedigree of the adaptive reuse, this project gave the designer a better understanding of the function of museums, the role of culture and heritage in design, and how to design a better visitor experience for all.

To celebrate Stephen Curry's 10th year in the league, and the final year the Golden State Warriors would play their home games in Oakland, Under Armour opened a one-of-a-kind pop-up store in downtown Oakland. Every single detail of the store was curated with storytelling and experiences around Stephen and his connection to the city.

Shanghai Playscape

Shanghai Playscape is a new public space, micro-intervention, low-cost project and part of the Fourth Edition of Open Your Space, an ongoing research and design project at the College of Design and Innovation, Tongji University. OYS focuses on public space in the Siping community by involving administration, residents, students, designers and artists in helping the community acquire a better sense of sustainability, comfort and accessibility to public spaces.

Tillamook Creamery Visitor Experience

Tillamook Creamery Association wanted to create an updated visitor experience at their popular creamery and tasting room for the over 1.3 million tourists they see each year. Working with copywriters, illustrators and photographers, Studio SC developed a visual storytelling approach that nods at Tillamook’s 110-year history while also focusing on the modern dairy industry.

W Shanghai

W Shanghai

Studio Ongarato developed a distinctive site narrative for the W Shanghai hotel and created an immersive experience for visitors, drawing on the history, geography and culture of the city. The conceptual narrative, "Captivating Contrasts," was informed by the uniquely Shanghainese culture of Hai Pai, the art of bringing together the East and West.

This exhibition celebrates design as a process, a way of thinking, and an approach to solving a problem—and the important role design can play in addressing critical human problems. Through the lens of design and inspiring objects, the exhibition appeals to broad audiences who might not otherwise visit the Discovery Center or engage in topics related to the Gates Foundation mission and work.

The Senses: Design Beyond Vision

Museums are places for community education, yet they are seldom accessible to everyone nor equitable in their presentation of content. Acknowledging the unfortunate truth that visually impaired people struggle to enjoy museum experiences, “Senses: Design Beyond Vision” invited visitors of all abilities to actively engage in the exhibition in ways surpassing conventional “universal design” considerations.
