Ideas, cultures, disciplines, and geographies converged in Atlanta June 5-7 for the 2014 SEGD Conference themed Convergence: Crossing Lines.

Ventspils Museum Exhibition

Merit Award 2014
Ventspils Museum Exhibition

The Ventspils Museum permanent exhibition is located in the 13th century Castle of the Livonian Order of Knights, one of the oldest castles in Latvia. Design Studio H2E took this special context into consideration in creating the exhibition. The team’s design concept is based on the shards of history that have impacted the castle and the port city over the course of centuries. The team translated the concept of shards visually through asymmetrical, polygonal shapes that form furniture, display cases, interactive stations, and other elements throughout the exhibition.

Located in northern Portugal, the Municipality of Paredes has been framing itself in the context of creative cities, finding an engine for development and sustainable growth through talent and creativity. Its history and industrial capacity, in particular the furniture sector (representing 61% of national production), are key factors in Paredes being recognized as a creative center.

Vancouver Community Library

Merit Award 2014
Vancouver Community Library

A “drawer full of knowledge” metaphorically describes the building design and wayfinding concept for the new Vancouver Community Library. A 200-foot long, four-story atrium is the open drawer, exposing the library’s contents and encouraging exploration.

Mayer/Reed (wayfinding), Miller Hull Partnership (architecture), AldrichPears Associates (interpretive installation)
