Susanne Harrington is President of Asterisk in Austin, Texas. Asterisk designs integrated brand experiences that build understanding, inspire action, and engage people with one another and their surroundings. Susanne creates engaging, content-rich places that encourage people to think and interact. As a design strategist, she helps businesses, developers, and architects bridge the gap between left- and right-brain thinking to delight audiences, strengthen brands, and get people talking. She leads many of the firm's largest engagements.
The child of an architect and a quilter, Susanne grew up understanding the relationship between art and science, and witnessing how design ideas can interact across two- and three-dimensional applications. These early experiences shaped her interest in fostering meaningful human engagement across paper, pixels, and places.
Susanne has an extensive background in the fields of publishing, corporate communication, identity development, experiential design, and wayfinding for complex environments. She builds long-term client and colleague relationships by focusing on responsive service and an open, collaborative process. She is driven by design that builds connections, creates clarity, and makes places easier to navigate and enjoy.
She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in visual communication from the University of Kansas. Prior to joining Asterisk as a principal, she was Director of Design at fd2s in Austin, and a designer at BRD in Los Angeles and VSA Partners and Ligature, Inc. in Chicago. She presented a collection of Asterisk's work at the 2019 Society for Experiential Design Global Design Conference in Austin. Asterisk’s work for Oracle’s Austin Waterfront Campus was a 2019 SEGD Global Design Awards Finalist. Susanne Harrington co-presented the project at the 2019 CoreNet Global Summit in Anaheim. She also worked with fd2s on the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Access signage and wayfinding program, winner of a 2005 Honor Award.
Asterisk is actively engaged in full-service branding and experiential design projects for real estate, retail, and corporate clients, with a focus on signage and workplace art and graphic installations that build culture and employee engagement.
