Skolnick Designing Florida Museum

Lee H. Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership is nearing design completion on the new Discovery Room for the Florida Museum of Natural History (Gainesville, Fla.); the 2,000 sq. ft. permanent exhibition is geared for ages eight and under and will cater especially to families. The concept is that our world is rich in biological diversity and cultural heritage. Exhibits will include examples from the expansive collections of the University of Florida and will be zoned with areas to Observe, Play, Pretend, Explore, and Study.  Each zone includes a series of interactive experiences for both individual and group engagement.

Using the themes from the building's architecture and exhibition designs, LHSA+DP has developed a logo for the new children's museum in Bulgaria, MUZEIKO.  This logo has been selected by the American for Bulgaria Foundation and is now being applied in a variety of graphic applications. In addition, LHSA+DP is working with Post Studio, a graphic design firm in Sofia, Bulgaria, to create exhibit graphics, signage, and iconic 'characters' for MUZEIKO.

Using approaches familiar to the design of children's museums and other informal learning environments, LHSA+DP is working on new children's library spaces at both the East Hampton Library (East Hampton, N.Y.) and the Port Washington Public Library (Port Washington, N.Y.)  The East Hampton Library’s new Children's Reading Room wing is in construction and set to open in April and the Port Washington Public Library is just beginning concept design.  Both Children's Libraries will cater to an audience ranging from early childhood to tweens.
