Our friends at MJMA Architects will be taking us on a tour of their recently completed project, Centennial College’s Downsview Campus Centre for Aerospace and Aviation. This project is chalk full of EGD and a fantastic example of the ability to integrate graphics as part of the building narrative. The team at Acumen Visual Group will join us in discussing how this project was brought to life.
"Centennial College had the tremendous ambition to re-purpose aircraft hangars at Downsview Airport as a teaching facility for aviation and aerospace. The existing structures – some of which date back to 1929 – are significant in Canadian aviation history. That history played an important role in the design of the visual identity. For example, curated archival photography is installed as super-sized graphic murals that form a dramatic backdrop in public spaces – speaking to the activities that once took place at this site. From a visual branding perspective; colours, symbols, and patterns we associate with an aircraft tarmac or manufacturing floor are used as inspirational cues for signage and wayfinding. Together these elements help contribute to a coherent experience. It has a quality that is distinctly new while also being rooted in the history of the place."
A big thanks to Acumen Visual Group for their support in realizing this event.
