SEGD NY Presents an Evening at the Barclays Center

Spend an evening at the Barclays Center for a talk and tour with Pentagram and American SignCrafters, the designers and fabricators of the Barclays Center sign program, followed by a basketball game between the Brooklyn Nets and Charlotte Bobcats. Plus, bring your business cards to enter for a chance to enjoy the game from the American SignCrafters suite!

About the Presenters

Susan May, Pentagram, Project Lead/Project Manager

Susan led the Barclays Center arena signage and wayfinding program while working on Michael Bierut’s team at Pentagram. Her current work at Pentagram with Natasha Jen includes a new hotel & spa brand start-up in Shanghai, China, including site and interior identity and wayfinding signage. Susan has been leading diversified and talented teams within New York design firms since 1995. Her experience branches disciplines including hospitality, healthcare, retail, sports & entertainment, education, real estate, municipal/civic and corporate. Susan has been an active member of SEGD since 1994. Her work has received numerous awards and showcased in publications, including SEGD, Municipal Arts Society of New York and Interior Design Magazine. 

Jeff Petersen, American SignCrafters, CEO
With over 40 years of experience in the New York City sign market, Jeff has been responsible for thousands of signs in and around the tri-state area throughout his career. Jeff has brought American SignCrafters into the national market with thousands of locations per year being fabricated and installed in almost all continental US states, Puerto Rico and Canada. Jeff has expanded American SignCrafters to include 4 physical locations in NY, NJ and FL, employing over 100+ full time staff. He is an expert in manufacturing methods, high-rise installation techniques, problem solving and overall sign knowledge. Jeff is a licensed Master Sign Erector in NYC.

Thomas A. Garatina, American SignCrafters, Project American
Tom served as the project manager for American SignCrafters on the Barclays Center project and supervised the fabrication and installation of the $3+ million dollar sign program. Along with signage, American SignCrafters also took on the aluminum and stainless steel cladding project at the stadium. Tom also supervised the recent Novotel Hotel project in Times Square, making it the newest and tallest 'Times Square Spectacular'. Both projects were on time and under budget. Tom specializes in high level project management practices in the construction related fields and has over 10 years of experience in project management for construction. He is a PMI certified Project Management Professional and an OSHA 30 certificate holder.
