The SEGD Fellows | Northeast Regional: Living Room Lecture Series

Thursday, April 30, 2020 - 6:30pm to 7:30pm

SEGD Boston is excited to kick off a new era of programming for our chapter and SEGD overall with The SEGD Fellows Northeast Regional: Living Room Lecture Series beginning with one of the key individuals responsible for the creation of our organization!

Join us from the comfort of your own living room, Thursday April 30, 2020 at 6:30pm for the start of this informative series with our first speaker Rich Burns, Co-Founder of SEGD and the first SEGD Fellow.

Have you ever wondered how SEGD was founded? What was the initial plan? What were the future goals for this as once fledgling organization? Is SEGD living up to those dreams, or are we surpassing them? What it was like to foster a new professional organization while running a fledgling EGD practice? These questions and more will be answered during this intimate virtual discussion.

Rich Burns, served as our third president, as a longtime member of the board of and in 1987 along with Jim Glass, was selected as one of the Society’s first Fellows. His firm, the GNU Group was an offshoot of his position as an in-house graphics group within the landscape architectural firm, the SWA Group. The firm’s early entry into the world of signage came about when SWA was asked to design the sign program for a new master planned community. Recognizing that he knew precious little about sign program design and invited by his old classmate, John Berry to attend the first ad-hoc meeting of what would become SEGD, he was compelled to attend. The rest as they say is history, which Rich will share in this first of our virtual meetings.

Rich will join us live from the West Coast as we watch his recent SEGD Talk from the Branded Environments Conference. He will share stories from SEGD’s history including how things ramped up for the organization right here in Harvard Square! We will wrap up with a live Q&A session.

Each session will be “hosted” by a new city and will help to keep us all connected in these uncertain times.*
