Philip Otto has been an entrepreneur, creative leader, and designer with his firm, Otto Design Group. Creating systems, as well as spaces, that maximize value for design and construction has been a hallmark of Philip's work since 1990. Philip Otto interests in retail, environments and experience began with a position at Commedes Garcons after college. He continued on this path with positions at the Exploratorium Museum in San Francisco, and at the Headlands Center for the Arts, where he worked on projects with world renowned artists and creatives. As a cultural anthropologist turned designer Philip likes to explore the intersection between architecture, design, art and culture. Over his career, Philip has maintained dialog between these interconnected worlds. He has worked across a variety of platforms to create environments that are both practical and poetic. Philip Otto has had the privilege to work with some of the premier brands in the world including Free People, The North Face, Coca-Cola International, Levi’s, Nike, Undefeated, Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters and REI to name a few.

Philip Otto enjoys teaching and has had the good fortune to lecture at the college level aswell. At The University of the Arts in Philadelphia he taught Sustainable Design in the Industrial Design department. He also taught Professional Practice there, following in the footsteps of Karim Rashid, as well as Rob Forbes who went on to start Design Within Reach after that. The experience of being a teacher, as well as a designer, encouraged Philip Otto to start his firm, Otto Design Group, in 1990. This approach has allowed him to be effective as both a design leader and an entrepreneur. Being a singer/songwriter for bands in the Seattle music scene during the Sub Pop years rounded out his experience as a participant and student of culture. As a design professional Philip has enjoyed working with disruptive growth stage companies, indie streetwear and surf brands, as well as civic scale and eco-futurist projects. He has worked on strategy and concepts for brands like Stussy, Undefeated, Nike, Outerknown, The North Face and Coca-Cola International to name a few. He is currently working on strategy and innovation for environments and experiences as Senior Advisor at Collective Future, an agency in Los Angeles as well as with my new venture, Seeds & Growth.
