Pentagram - Rebranding World Chess

Pentagram (New York) designed a new program to rebrand World Chess, the pinnacle of competitive chess. Designed to emphasize the qualities of intelligence and intensity inherent to the game, the graphic identity takes the form of a three-dimensional hexagonal board in which many different permutations can be seen.

William Russell of the firm has completed work on the design of Marks and Spencer’s anchor store at Westfield Stratford City, London, developing the customer journey through four stories of retail space, from the store’s now-iconic external signage, to a dramatic timber and steel installation that connects all levels, to a cantilevered café at the top of the building with views out across Stratford. The store recently won Best Department Store Design at the 2012 Retail Week Interior Awards.

Pentagram’s Michael Gericke and team have designed Activist New York, an exhibition currently on view at the Museum of the City of New York that looks at the city’s remarkable 350-year history as a focal point for activism. The show is the inaugural exhibition in the museum’s new Puffin Foundation Gallery and features a bold, colorful design inspired by demonstrations themselves.
