Photograph of Olympic rings public installation

Pentagram (London) Partners Harry Pearce and Naresh Ramchandani collaborated with the artists Ackroyd & Harvey on an installation of rings suspended in trees at London’s Olympic Park at Stratford. Elegant and quietly powerful, the 10 rings––each 15 meters in diameter and forged of phosphored bronze and stainless steel––tell the story of the Olympic site over the past few centuries and will remain in place after the Games. Similar to the way natural tree rings show history and age, the rings feature lines of inscribed typography that function as a kind of verbal archaeology.
