Gallagher & Associates recently was thrilled to announce the appointment of Clare Brown as creative director for the Washington DC studio. With over 20 years of experience in design for cultural institutions, Brown's work focuses on applying contemporary design practices to exhibitions and pushing innovation in the design of museum experiences. Her point-of-view, creative excellence and vast experience in both design thinking and process will be an invaluable resource to the G&A teams.
As Creative Director, Brown will play a critical role in accelerating G&A's vision to fully integrate the DC Studio across digital and physical disciplines. She will define and maintain best-practices for creative excellence and ensure the firm's legacy is carried forward. Most importantly, she will be charged with raising the next generation of leaders, while also advancing our culture of innovation.
Before joining G&A, Brown most recently held the position of chief of design for the National Museum of American History. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Experience Design at the University of The Arts, London, where she has a strong focus on integrated and collaborative design practice—especially through collaborative facilitation.
Brown is also an experienced educator and speaker, previously the head of program for the Masters of Design in Exhibition Design at the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at George Washington University. She presents nationally and internationally about exhibition design and has published several articles including a chapter in Suzanne MacLeod’s 2019 book, "The Future of Museum and Gallery Design: Purpose, Process, Perception"—a must-read for anyone interested in integrated design.
