Moss Retail & Environments (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) completed the graphic branding package for UI Labs, the Chicago-based research collaborative that brings universities and industries, national labs, and civic and government partners together to solve complex challenges.
The 94,000-sq.-ft. facility, home to several labs, features a dynamic environmental branding and wayfinding program designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill. Aligned with the labs' collaborative scientific mission, the graphics program provides an immersive, stimulating experience. It begins in the reception area, where a collage of lab-member signage is composed of printed satin-brushed Chemetal and white Sintra mounted to ½-in. acrylic. The "Future Today" feature wall showcases magnetic-receptive base and UV printed poly 8 graphic fascia on painted drywall.
Elsewhere, glass applications feature white ink printed onto clear base vinyl. A wayfinding element was painted on the floor using plotter-cut stencils, supplementing dimensional 1/8-in. Sintra wayfinding elements on the walls. See more of the project here.
