Michael Reed is Founding Partner Emeritus of Mayer/Reed, a Portland, Oregon based studio. He founded the studio 1977 to integrate visual communications into the built environment. Today the studio provides visual communications, interior design, landscape architecture and urban design.

Michael’s portfolio includes the San Francisco International Airport’s International Terminal, Vera Katz Eastbank Esplanade Urban Markers (Portland, OR), Wayne Morse United States Courthouse (Eugene, OR) and TriMet Downtown Transit Mall Redevelopment (Portland, OR).

He has received national design awards from the Society for Environmental Graphic Design, American Society of Landscape Architects, U.S. General Services Administration and The National Waterfront Center. Published work includes projects featured in books including You Are Here: Graphics that Direct, Explain & Entertain; Design & Planning of 3-Dimensional Graphics; and Wayshowing, A Guide to Environmental Signage Principles & Practices.

Michael is a graduate of Ohio State University where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design. In addition to serving on the SEGD board, he co-chaired SEGD's 2000 national conference that explored the theme “Making Sense of Place.” He received the Distinguished Member Award in 2001 and was named an SEGD Fellow in 2016.
