Congratulations to Margo Malter, the winner of the 2018 SEGD Student Scholarship!

Margo Malter is an MA candidate in Exhibition and Experience Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She is a budding exhibition designer and interpretative strategist whose work is grounded in her background as an artist, art administrator and early childhood educator. She is interested in how exhibitions can be generous, immersive and emotional.

Malter is well versed in collaboration, having spent seven years heading a Baltimore-based collectively-run gallery and arts organization, with whom she organized over 30 exhibitions and two large-scale annual festivals. She also spent four years teaching in the early childhood classroom, focused on environment-driven child-directed teaching philosophies.

Additionally, she maintains a consistent studio practice designing digitally printed and embroidered textiles. These three roles have given Malter the opportunity to experiment with and practice varying combinations of community gathering, art facilitating, design, craft and education.

Margo Malter looks forward to taking an active role in defining the field of exhibition design and hopes to focus her writing practice on industry-wide trends and practices to foster the most forward thinking and inclusive kind of experiential design. Originally from Atlanta, Margo moved to Baltimore to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she received a BFA in painting in 2011.
