Mayer/Reed (Portland, Ore.) will collaborate with Snøhetta and DIALOG on the design of the Willamette Falls Riverwalk at the former Blue Heron Paper Mill site in Oregon City, Ore.
As the prime consultant, Mayer/Reed will collaborate with the two international design partners and work with numerous agencies, stakeholders, and the public to create a rich experience that will allow the public access to the site for the first time in more than a century.
Willamette Falls is the second largest waterfall in the United States, and sits next to the industrial site of the Blue Heron Paper Mill, which was shuttered in 2011 due to bankruptcy. The riverwalk is the first phase of redevelopment for the former mill site. The project aims to connect visitors to the falls as well as to a Willamette Falls Downtown District with spaces for housing, employers, and recreation.
"We're honored to accept this incredible opportunity to shape the future of the site," says Michael Reed, Mayer/Reed principal. "We're continually inspired by the layers of history at the site and are energized by our team’s rapport and shared vision. We're prepared to reveal this remarkable scenic and cultural treasure that has been buried in plain sight for decades."
