Mark is an experience and systems designer, facilitator and writer working in human-centered graphic design for over 35 years. He helps organizations visualize, then meaningfully impact the systems within which they function. In this role, he serves as Founding Partner of Connect-CX, an Experience Design Firm.
He previously spent 24 years with Corbin Design, an environmental graphic design firm that specializes in wayfinding systems for healthcare, higher education and civic clients. Mark VanderKlipp served in leadership positions for 21 of those years, 13 as its president. In this role, he successfully transitioned the company from a sole proprietor (founder Jeff Corbin) to an employee-owned ESOP firm, and steered it through the Great Recession with his leadership team. Having accomplished all he set out to do with that firm, he left in 2016 to pursue new professional challenges.
Mark and his wife, Suzanne, have successfully raised two sons, each have survived cancer and have been married for over 30 years. They are approaching the dual challenges of a new business and an empty nest together.
Mark VanderKlipp has served in leadership roles on the SEGD Board (2010-2013) and Executive Committee as Treasurer in 2013. He has also served on the board of the Association of Professional Design Firms (APDF), an organization dedicated to furthering the business of design. He is widely published and has spoken to numerous groups including the Beryl Institute for Patient Experience, Society for Participatory Medicine, SEGD, International Downtown Association (IDA), American Trails, Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development (SHSMD), Society for College and University Planning (SCUP), American Society of Landscape Architects, Healthcare Facilities Symposium, International Sign Association and the National Main Streets Association.
Mark is a 1987 graduate of the University of Michigan, with a BFA in Graphic Design. In 2012, he became Evidence-Based Design Accredited and Certified (EDAC) through the Center for Health Design, and has received annual accreditations in Systems Practice from Acumen Academy/NovoEd from 2017-2020. Since 2017, he has served as Communications Chair for the Grand Traverse chapter of the University of Michigan Alumni Association.
