Innovation and Design Director

As a design director at Hornall Anderson, Mark Buchalter is focused on bringing brands and experiences to life within the built environment. Mark Buchalter believes in the power of design to make the world a better place - be it through small innovations or radical shifts. And he believes as designers, our role is to be part anthropologist as well as artist in creating relevant human-centered solutions.

Mark Buchalter started his career path planning to be an architect, and then followed his passion for building things by going to a school where he spent over a week flattening a board of wood to perfection with a hand plane. After wearing through a gaggle of flannel shirts, he shifted into industrial design and ended up at IDEO - one of the world's most innovative companies.

Mark Buchalter has had the privilege to work with a wide variety of industries and brands over the last 20 years, from Cisco and GE to Ford and Frito Lay. He is the incredibly proud dad of two young sons, dreams of designing and building his own home some day, and loves the fact that he gets paid to draw pictures and watch people a lot.
