Margaret Schwartz
2000 Angel Award honoree
Margaret's extensive and varied background includes 30 years of design in architecture, interior design and aircraft interiors, as well as other highly specialized areas of design such as furniture, set design for filmmaking, to architectural and theme park signage. Her pursuit within these many areas of the design field has enabled her to look at environmental design from many different viewpoints. Coming from a creative household, she was encouraged to learn how things were made and to use sophisticated tools at a very early age, which piqued her interest in building and constructing in innovative ways. Her particular expertise has always addressed the finer details of the user's experience, however, during the last few years she has been looking at the world from a wheelchair, which has opened up a different perspective around environmental design issues. From her home office she has recently designed and directed projects that have taken her to China, the Philippine Islands and Samoa, opening her up to a larger interest in how humans adapt to their environment and how various cultures deal with life's many challenges.
