Lee H. Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership (New York), selected from a shortlist of international teams, has been working with the America for Bulgaria Foundation and the Muzeiko staff in the development and design of Bulgaria's first children's museum and the first for eastern Europe. In design since summer 2012, Muzeiko will break ground this fall with the conversion of the site of a former college laboratory building into a modern learning space for children and families.
In celebration of their 50th anniversary, the Mohonk Preserve invited LHSA+DP to upgrade the original Skolnick-designed building, site, and exhibits. A recent article in Retrofit Magazine discusses the firm's role in creating a new Children's Discovery Corner at the Preserve, along with improvements made to the Sensory Trail exhibit and the Visitor Center interiors.
An H.H. Richardson-designed former state hospital in Buffalo, NY, will undergo a major transformation in early 2014. The long-forgotten space, with grounds designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, will be repurposed as the Buffalo Architecture Center, a concept created and planned by LHSA+DP with the intent to honor the city’s rich architectural history.
