The historic 30th Street Station in Philadelphia is the regional headquarters of Amtrak, and once served as the headquarters for the Pennsylvania Railroad.
In 2009, Calori &Vanden-Eynden was retained to conduct a signage inventory and survey, and develop a signage master plan for the station. The study identified opportunities to improve the inter-modal connectivity of the station in advance of projected increases in rail ridership. C&VE designed a system of historically-referenced static and dynamic signs to unify the station in terms of nomenclature, typography, colors, symbols, and shapes.
With a funding grant provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) the project has moved forward from planning and design, and will be implemented in phases over the next two years.
