The Future of Experience & Place: 2019 SEGD Xlab, Brooklyn, Nov. 7-8

NEW YORK—This November, SEGD presents its second-largest event of the year, Xlab—the ninth-annual experiential graphic design gathering, held in Brooklyn at BRIC for the second consecutive year.

This year’s theme, “The Future of Experience & Place,” will explore the increasing value and demand in creating experiences. Xlab 2019 will take a closer look at the strategies, methodologies and technologies experiential designers and visionaries are employing in creating innovative, immersive and interactive experiences for the public.

“Xlab is no longer just about how technology has helped shape design; it’s about the Millennial generation's shift to an experience-based economy and about designers realizing the increased value that can be generated by creating experiences rather than only products and services,” explains Clive Roux, SEGD’s CEO.

The two-day event will feature an Xlab attendee favorite, optional morning and afternoon tours throughout New York City on Thursday, November 7, enabling participants to visit local experiential design studios and projects. Afterward, participants can network at the Post-Tour Meetup at Circa Brewing, in Brooklyn.

On Friday, November 8, the group will assemble at BRIC in Brooklyn for sessions and dialogues that dive deeply into what will shape the experiential economy and place of tomorrow. Later, an evening mixer hosted by the SEGD New York Chapter will commence at Black Forest Brooklyn.

For the first time ever, the opening keynote of 2019 SEGD Xlab event will be economist Jim Gilmore—co-author of "The Experience Economy" and co-founder of Strategic Horizons. As an economist, Gilmore will supply a unique perspective on the significance of creating immersive experiences for audiences or consumers. Gilmore first wrote about how the world would move into the experience economy 20 years ago in the first edition of his book. At Xlab 2019, SEGD will be giving out the latest edition of  "The Experience Economy," newly released this year.

“You’ll hear from thought leaders who service the institutional and museum world, and firms that are pushing the boundaries of experiential design at this year’s Xlab event,” says Clive Roux, SEGD’s CEO. "The 2019 lineup will give the audience a clear picture of how the cutting edge of experiential graphic design has evolved while also providing a sneak peek as to where it might go."
