Black History Month continues into March here at SEGD! In this article we explore five museums and cultural centers featuring different aspects of African American history—from slave ships to the civil rights movement, and from the Underground Railroad to free Black communities. Each of these organizations face their own unique challenges, especially in this time of pandemic. Read on to discover how designers can—and have—helped these institutions by designing experiences to engage visitors and generate greater public interest in the museum’s missions.
