Experiential Tours at the 2023 SEGD Wayfinding + Placemaking Symposium

SEGD will be hosting our annual Wayfinding + Placemaking Symposium in less than a month! This year’s Symposium will consist of in-person tours and sessions in Los Angeles, California. Registration is required to participate in a tour. Read on to get insider details about these in-person tours.
 

All tours occur on Thursday, April 27, 2023, from 2:00-4:00 pm PST
 

Destination Crenshaw “Under Construction”

Destination Crenshaw is a 1.3-mile-long open-air museum dedicated to celebrating LA’s Black community through art and culture. Founded in 2017, this transformative, under-construction project will include new pocket parks, hundreds of newly planted trees, and over 100 commissioned works of art, creating a stunning community space in an area that long deserved strategic urban planning and economic investment.

 

LAX - Delta Terminal 

This tour features the brand-new extension to Terminal 3 referred to as the SkyWay terminal at Los Angeles International airport. Focused on the passenger experience, this terminal demonstrates how the intersection of design and technology can positively impact wayfinding, placemaking and communication.

 

LA Union Station

Union Station is an iconic landmark in Los Angeles and a symbol of the downtown’s renaissance. This dynamic cultural destination offers arts, dining, and entertainment tied to a vital hub of LA’s main railway station. The unique events and rotating art exhibitions showcase the diversity of artists and entertainers creating a true cultural hub and gateway to the great city of Los Angeles.

 

West Hollywood / Sunset Strip

Sunset Strip is an iconic 1.5 mile stretch of Sunset Boulevard between downtown LA and Santa Monica, extending through the northwest corner of West Hollywood. This world-famous destination exudes the Hollywood dream infused with fashion, nightlife, famed standup clubs, live music and boutique hotels. This tour will explore the new 5,000 SF of LED video displays at the Pendry West Hollywood and the Pendry Residences West Hollywood, where the creative digital canvas pattern of LED ribbons is infused into the architectural facades. Learn more about how the Pendry West Hollywood, will feature new video work by David Hockney alongside 70 synchronized electronic billboards throughout the world.


These tours are concurrent and require separate registration. There is a $50 registration fee. Transportation to and from the tour is on your own. Space is limited and on a first-come-first-serve basis. Tour participants will receive an email with tour details the week of the event.

All 2023 SEGD Wayfinding and Placemaking sessions will be held at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center, The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage, 1310 11th Street • Santa Monica, CA 90401. 

SEGD does not have an official room block rate for this event, but we recommend Courtyard by Marriott Santa Monica or Le Meridien Delfina Santa Monica. There are several other hotels in the area too, so take a look at what is nearby the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center and select your favorite place to stay!
