Taking cues from the historic facades of the two buildings formerly on the site, Studio SC organized the garage into two zones. The South area graphics feature curves with rounded letterforms and a diagonal pattern directly influenced by the Troy Laundry building’s classic herringbone brickwork. North area graphics are made up of horizontal lines and right angles, recalling the linear running bond masonry on the Boren Investment Warehouse exterior.

The Fashion Show project consists of 10,000 square feet of LED video displays reaching 112 feet at the tallest point. The video displays feature more than 12 million LEDs to create more than four million pixels across 7,000 LED modules to provide 281 trillion colors for high contrast vibrant imagery.

Translucent elements evocative of both stagecraft and bookbinding are used to delineate space. Different “scenes” are defined with diaphanous set flats, configured to resemble open books. Printed theatrical scrim with innovative projections are strategically arrayed so visitors can dramatically see one another as they move through the exhibit.

To address the very narrow space of the check-in hall at Perth Airport, Büro North developed a staged delivery of information aligning to the steps passengers are required to complete through the check-in process. In addition, Büro North’s evidence-based wayfinding approach to the project reduced the number of signs planned for the project by approximately 30%.

The team created an installation made of three structures, each constructed of glazed bricks salvaged from the original YMCA. The front of each of the three segments references the original building’s façade, while the back of each segment features a mosaic of the different colored bricks, symbolizing the YMCA’s role in bringing “two worlds” together—a grounding concept behind the architecture of the original building.

Spanning the entire height of the building are a detailed botanical illustration of a Douglas fir tree and a Loblolly pine tree. Interpretive graphics feature scientific information about the tree based on its age at the corresponding height of the mural.

Designers transformed the building's common areas with 1,700-square-feet of motion-activated media that provides a cutting edge experience while honoring the site’s past.
