Illinois Holocaust Museum's Four New Immersive Galleries

Extensive updates to the core Karkomi Holocaust Exhibition at the Illinois Holocaust Museum (Skokie, Ill.) serve to debunk the myth that Jewish citizens did not resist the Holocaust, with new exhibition galleries that showcase armed, physical resistance in occupied Europe during the Holocaust. The Museum partnered with Luci Creative (Chicago), a full-service museum planning and exhibit design firm, to develop the updates and Ravenswood Studio as the fabrication partner.

Shakespeare by C&G

Translucent elements evocative of both stagecraft and bookbinding are used to delineate space. Different “scenes” are defined with diaphanous set flats, configured to resemble open books. Printed theatrical scrim with innovative projections are strategically arrayed so visitors can dramatically see one another as they move through the exhibit.

Discovery Zone by Skolnick

A larger-than-life sculpture of a Zebra Longwing butterfly (Florida’s state butterfly) and its host plant, the Passionflower, form a centerpiece to the exhibit. Other self-directed activity areas encourage visitors to Play (pre-schoolers), Pretend, Explore and Study through interactive and collections-based experiences.
