“We’ve simply embraced it for its quirkiness,” says William Fowler, a distinguished professor of history at Northeastern University. “Can you imagine today someone in Boston wanting to put up a monument to an oil company?”

NewCity by Media Objectives

The team created an installation made of three structures, each constructed of glazed bricks salvaged from the original YMCA. The front of each of the three segments references the original building’s façade, while the back of each segment features a mosaic of the different colored bricks, symbolizing the YMCA’s role in bringing “two worlds” together—a grounding concept behind the architecture of the original building.

Spanning the entire height of the building are a detailed botanical illustration of a Douglas fir tree and a Loblolly pine tree. Interpretive graphics feature scientific information about the tree based on its age at the corresponding height of the mural.

ESI Terrell Place

Designers transformed the building's common areas with 1,700-square-feet of motion-activated media that provides a cutting edge experience while honoring the site’s past. Diffused LED wall displays in the main lobbies and corridor are activated by passersby via an infrared camera system, creating beautiful scenes that ebb and flow with the morning rush and the afternoon lull.

VC Hormel

An addition to the existing facility included a new two story east lobby that now features wallpaper patterns designed by Visual Communications Senior Experiential Graphic Designer Jesse Yungner, and microscopic images turned into design elements by Principal Constance Carlson.

The LAB at Rockwell Group (New York) lit up the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place with Luminaries, an interactive lighting display that inaugurated a new holiday tradition in Lower Manhattan.

Image Manufacturing Group (Atlanta) launched Imago, a new architectural sign system designed for corporate, retail, healthcare, hospitality, and other interior environments.

NPR Headquarters lobby new Digital Signage

Sansi North America, LLC (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) supplied the LED components of the environmental graphics for the new NPR headquarters in Washington, D.C. The project, designed by Poulin + Morris Inc., includes a dramatic LED-based Media Mosaic inside the lobby as well as an LED ribbon and ticker element on the exterior of the building.
