Dotdash (Brisbane) announced that their work for the Cardwell Foreshore Redevelopment (Queensland), which consists of wayfinding signage and environmental graphics, has been selected by Communication Arts to feature in their online publication.
In early 2011, the far north Queensland community of Cardwell experienced the savage force of Cyclone Yasi, generating a storm surge so powerful that the Cardwell foreshore was left a desolate landscape. Since then, the community has received assistance from both the state and federal government for the redevelopment of the Cardwell Foreshore, aimed to celebrate a community's identity whist injecting it with a new sense of vibrancy.
Communication Arts noted that Dotdash's "...collection of directional signs incorporates a bold color palette inspired by the surrounding reef and rainforest. Its simple post-and-panel system allows for a clean juxtaposition between the sharp aluminum panels and the rough texture of aged timber posts. To help visitors navigate a new landscape, one that covers the scars of a natural disaster, the signs explain local wildlife and history—and tell the story of the community’s transformation."
